Lemon oil is a powerful cleaning agent that helps purify the air, disinfects surfaces, is natural, non-toxic, and safe to use around the house as part of housekeeping, is cost-effective, has a strong aroma, and provides antiseptic and mood-enhancing properties.

  • Fragrance the clothes: Add a few drops of lemon oil to the unscented laundry detergent in the washer drawer, before starting the wash cycle, to give the clothes a pleasant scent. Lemon essential oil also gets rid of the musty odor of clothes that have been in the washing machine for a long time.
  • Give your dishcloths a fresh scent: Soak dishcloths overnight in a bowl of water with lemon oil, then wash and dry.
  • Air freshening: Place several drops of lemon essential oil in a glass spray bottle filled with distilled water and spray into the air to give any room a fresh scent. A glass bottle is the best option, as plastic and any kind of essential oil don’t mix well, and the oil can cause the plastic to deteriorate.

Lemon oil household tasks

There are several household tasks that lemon oil does effectively. Here’s a glimpse of them:

  • Surface disinfection: A bottle filled with distilled water and lemon oil is also used to sanitize surfaces, especially countertops, tables, and kitchen appliances, as the mixture is effective, even on stainless steel utensils. Thus, there is no need to buy a cleaning product specific to one surface.
  • Polishing furniture: Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to half a cup of olive oil, the mixture is effective in cleaning, especially for wooden surfaces, while polishing and protecting them.
  • Remove sticky residue from package labels: Apply a few drops of lemon oil to the residue and rub with a cotton pad.
  • Stain removal: Lemon essential oil removes stains from clothing, even old grease stains. To do this, rub the stains with the oil, right away, and wash the item of clothing.
  • Get rid of dish stains: Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the dishwasher, or dishwater, if you’re washing dishes by hand.
  • Carpet cleaning: Add 10 to 15 drops of lemon essential oil to a gallon of carpet cleaning solution to help remove stains from carpets and rugs, leaving the room smelling fresh and clean.
  • Fragrance the refrigerator: Put a few drops of lemon essential oil on a cotton ball and leave it in the fridge to help eliminate food odors.
  • Cleaning the oven: Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to two tablespoons of baking soda powder and a little water to make a paste. The latter works great with a gas oven.
  • Wood cleaning: To make a furniture polish, simply add 3 drops of lemon essential oil to 1/4 cup of olive oil. Apply the polish to your furniture with a towel. For variations in wood finishes, test the polish in an inconspicuous place first.
  • Window cleaning: Add 5 to 10 drops of lemon essential oil to your regular window cleaner, or make your own window cleaner by mixing white vinegar with 5 to 6 drops of lemon essential oil in a spray bottle. Then, shake the bottle to mix the ingredients, and start cleaning your windows.
  • Carpet cleaning: Add 10 to 15 drops of lemon essential oil to a gallon of natural carpet cleaning solution to help remove stains from carpets and rugs and leave a fresh scent in the room.
  • A soft scrub for cleaning sinks, laundry and showers: Make a soft scrub, using ½ cup of baking soda powder, 3 tablespoons of Castile soap, and a few drops of lemon essential oil.
  • Sterilize sponges: Place sponges and dish towels in a bowl of water with two drops of lemon essential oil. Soak overnight to kill germs.
  • Use lemon essential oil to fight mold: It is correct to mix 10 drops of lemon oil with water, in a small spray bottle, and spray the areas affected by mold.
  • Reduce paint fumes: Add an entire 15-milliliter bottle of lemon essential oil to a 5-gallon bucket of paint, then mix the oil into the paint by stirring vigorously.
